Milo: Learn to Read & Write (“Milo”, “the app”) is a reading and writing app for children aged 3 to 7, published by AstroForged (“we”, “us”). This policy explains what the app does with information. In short: the app does not collect any personal information, and nothing about your child or your family leaves your device.
- Information we collect
None. We do not collect, receive, sell or share any personal information. The app has no accounts, no sign-in, no advertising, no analytics, no crash reporting and no tracking of any kind. The app does not connect to the internet.
- Information stored only on your device
So the app can work, it saves the following in its private storage on your device. We cannot see or access any of it.
- Child profiles: a nickname you choose, a character picture chosen from the app’s own artwork, left- or right-handedness, a starting level and an optional daily time limit. We suggest using a nickname rather than a full name.
- Learning progress: the activities played, the answers given, how well each letter, sound and word is known, and when and for how long lessons were played. The app uses this to choose what to practise next and to show you a progress report.
- Writing samples: the shapes of letters, words and drawings your child makes, so you can see handwriting improve over time.
- Rewards: the stickers and trophies your child has earned.
- Reading recordings (optional and off unless you turn them on): if a parent turns on recordings in the grown-ups area, your child can record themselves reading aloud. The recordings are audio files kept only on your device. They are never uploaded, shared or analysed.
- Settings, such as whether Milo’s voice, sound effects, vibration and recordings are on.
- Keeping and deleting information
Information stays on your device until you delete it. In the grown-ups area you can delete individual reading recordings, and deleting a child’s profile deletes all of that child’s progress, writing samples, rewards and recordings. Uninstalling the app deletes everything. If you have turned on Android’s backup for your device, Android may include the app’s data in your own Google backup. That backup is controlled by your Google account settings, and we cannot access it.
- Microphone
The app asks for permission to use the microphone only when a parent turns on reading recordings in the grown-ups area, after an adult check. The microphone is used only while your child is recording themselves reading, after pressing the record button. You can turn recordings off in the app, or remove the permission in your device settings, at any time.
- Purchases
The app is free to download. Milo Pro unlocks all lessons, either with a subscription or with a one-time lifetime purchase. Purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play through the Play Store app on your device; we never receive or store your payment details. You can manage or cancel a subscription in Google Play at any time. Google’s privacy policy applies to purchases: https://policies.google.com/privacy
To show prices and let you buy or restore Milo Pro, the app contacts Google Play from the grown-ups area. The app also asks the Play Store app on your device whether Milo Pro is still active, for example whether a subscription has renewed. Only Google Play takes part in this; no information about your child is involved.
- Children’s privacy
Milo is made for young children, and it protects their privacy by not collecting personal information at all. It is designed with the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code and the GDPR in mind. Settings, progress reports, recordings, purchases and links are kept in a grown-ups area behind an adult check that young children cannot easily pass. Opening this policy’s web address from the grown-ups area opens your device’s web browser, which is outside the app.
- Third parties
The app contains no third-party advertising, analytics or social media services. All speech, sounds and pictures in the app were made in advance and are included in the app. The app does not send your child’s voice, writing or any other information to anyone.
- Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will be included in an app update and posted at the same web address, with a new “Last updated” date. We will not start collecting any information without first updating this policy.
